The area of Montalcino produces Italy’s most highly prized Tuscan red wine `Brunello` and is located south of Siena. The warmer drier climate of Montalcino means that its resulting wines have more body than its neighbour Chianti. The grape variety used to make Brunello is Sangiovese. Ferrero is a small estate located on the southern slopes of Montalcino. It was set up by husband and wife Pablo and Claudia Ferrero in 1990 and is just 7.5 hectares in size. The estate only uses organic fertilizers and is meticulously managed. Rosso di Montalcino may be best described as a baby Brunello, being somewhat lighter and at a significantly lower price point.
The wine is aged for 12 months in a mixture of tank and wooden barrels resulting in a more fruit driven style of wine.
