Will Davenport began making English wine in 1989 and has established himself as one of the top English winemakers. Will now has some 20 acres of vineyards which he farms organically and his wines have won many medals. A classic sparkling wine made from a blend of Chardonnay (50%), Pinot Meunier (24%) and Pinot Noir (26%). This wine is aged on lees for 3 years and has a dry balance.
Organically grown grapes made into sparkling wine using the same process as Champagne. Followed by three years ageing on lees in bottle to develop richness before disgorging and release.
Davenport Vineyards have been making wines for nearly 20 years, building from a small start up to a collection of vineyard sites that total 20 acres. Their aim is to make wine of the highest quality possible and to make wine that is a true expression of the grape varieties, soil and climate of their vineyards. They achieve this by interfering a little as possible and, under their guidance, letting nature take its course. The use of organic methods helps to bring the results they want and has the benefit of also minimising impact on the environment. Since 1993, they have won numerous awards for their wines, converted all the vineyards to organic management, and put together a winery that is one of the only organic certified wineries in the UK, fully equipped to make still and sparkling wines to the highest standards. Constant improvements and changes take place every year, with new wine styles, new ideas for growing grapes in a more sustainable way and upgrading of equipment. The Limney brand is made in small volumes and one of their strengths is that they take grape growing and winemaking as a hands-on craft rather than a large scale process, this gives each vintage and each wine they make its own unique character.
