Avondale is a family owned and run wine estate in Paarl, South Africa. The proprietor is Jonathan Grieve, also known as ‘Jonty’. Avondale specialise in top flight extraordinary, wines made with the utmost attention to detail and which are unique in character. Jonty’s Ducks wines are made from grapes grown organically on Avondale’s eco-friendly estate in the picturesque Paarl region of the Cape Winelands located in South Africa. A posse of Pekin ducks patrol the vineyards to find and eat snails which would otherwise cause serious damage to the vines.
Grapes are hand-picked, de-stemmed and crushed, after which wild yeast fermentation was allowed in closed stainless steel tanks. Following post fermentation maceration, malolactic fermentation and maturation took place in small used French oak barrels. The wine was aged for 12-14 months to soften acidity and tannins.
