Husband and wife team Andreas and Maria Harm produce many wonderful wines from their terraced organic vineyards, situated in hills that were once associated with the historically valuable mineral Alum; the name Alaun reflects this history. The stoney terrain is perfect for the vines and brings out the wonderful hints of minerals and citrus fruits of the Grüner Veltliner grape.
Grapes are crushed and pressed carefully for about three hours. Only natural yeast is used with fermentation in stainless steel tanks for a couple of months under normal cellar conditions, followed by maturation on fine less and one coarse filtration before bottling.
Andreas and Maria Harm are the driving force behind Harmwein. They farm their vineyards on the stoney terraces of nearby hills that were once mined for the mineral Alum. They plant vegetables between the vines to create biodiversity and produce some wonderful wines.
