Tasting Notes

The small winery of Tenuta La Meridiana is owned by the Bianco family, who are now in their 4th generation. They specialise in one black grape variety – Barbera. What the Barbera grape needs more than anything is a warm site that will help to ensure it fully ripens and tames its naturally high acidity. The Bianco family’s estate is one of the best sites for Barbera, located close to the town of Alba in the Monferrato hills. They make some of the finest Barbera wines we have tried. Barbera d`Asti le Gagie, is a pure expression of Barbera and is made in a modern fruit driven style. The wine is rich yet supple in style and has dark cherry style flavours with hints of vanilla and spice, it offers a good lower priced alternative to a Barolo.

Wine Making Notes

The wine is matured for 12 months in large 3000 Litre oak casks which adds softness and complexity to the wine.

About the Producer

Documents dating back to the 19th century witness that, at that time, the Bianco family were already producing and marketing wines of superior quality, in particular Barbera. After four generations, Gianpiero Bianco, with his wife Grazia, continues to improve the family business with passion and dedication, producing wines that represent a happy combination of terroir, tradition and innovation. The TENUTA LA MERIDIANA wine estate is located south of Asti and not far from Alba, in the hills of Monferrato, the shrine of viticulture of Piedmont. The vineyards of the estate were carefully chosen to be part of the estate thanks to their south-east, south and south-west exposure and the quality of the soil, consisting of marl with clay and tufa layers. They are in a zone particularly favourable for the cultivation of Barbera variety, and almost all grown according to the Guyot method, traditional of Piedmont.
