A rich, intense red wine full of flavours of forest fruit, plum and cherry jam with hints of vanilla and spice.
Best enjoyed with rich game dishes, roasted red meats, ratatouille and mature hard cheeses.
Intense ruby red moving towards garnet in colour, a complex yet pure bouquet of red fruits and berries, cherry jam, cherry liquor and plum, while on the palate flavours of black cherry, brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla, spice and liquorice. Rich and concentrated for those who like a serious wine.
Carefully selected Corvina grapes are partially dried over several months to concentrate flavour and sugar. Long fermentation then happens with subsequent ageing in oak barrels for 18 months. The wine is then transferred to large oak casks for a further 10 months ageing before being bottled, where it rests for another 6 months before release.
The Cottini family sell their wines under the name of Scriani and are situated in Fumane in the heartland of the Valpolicella Classico area, with vineyards covering approximately 8 hectares. Some of their vineyards are cultivated using the traditional Veronese trellis method, however more recently planted vineyards, use the Guyot system which is increasingly producing higher fruit quality. Their wines frequently win awards and their Amarone is one of the very best in the business.
