Aglianico grapes are grown in espalier with spurred cordons on rich, calcareous soil. The harvest takes place in the second half of October. Maceration lasts at least 10 days to obtain the maximum extraction of colour and concentration. The fermentation temperature never exceeds 20 ° C, ensuring the purity of fruit is retained. Maturation takes place in large Slovenian oak barrels for 12 months. Subsequent refinement in the bottle for a period of 6 months.
Villa Schinosa are based in Trani in Puglia on the heel of Italy. Puglia is often described as the California of Italy partly due to its fertile soils and temperate climate. Schinosa is a family winery owned by the Minutolo family with the son, Corrado, now in control. The estate grows olives, cherries and nuts as well as grapes, but it is the wines that really impress. Schinosa specialise in working with native grape varieties and as such they offer consumers a real chance to discover something different.
