Tasting Notes

Villa Schinosa are based in Trani in Puglia on the heel of Italy. Puglia is often described as the California of Italy, partly due to its fertile soils and temperate climate. Schinosa is a family winery owned by the Minutolo family. The estate grows olives, cherries and nuts as well as grapes, but it is the wines that really impress. Schinosa specialise in working with native grape varieties and as such they offer consumers a real chance to discover something different. Aglianico is one of the oldest grape varieties in the world; it is a vine introduced in Italy by the Greeks, known to the Romans with the name of Ellenico, from which the current name Aglianico derives.

Wine Making Notes

Aglianico grapes grown in espalier with spurred cordon on rich, clay and basically calcareous soil with a density of 4500 plants per hectare. The harvest takes place in the second half of October. Maceration lasts at least 10 days to obtain the maximum extraction of aromatic and coloring substances. The fermentation temperature never exceeds 20 ° C. Maturation takes place in 35 Hl Slavonian oak barrels. where the wine develops its characteristics. Subsequent refinement in the bottle for a period of 6 months.
