Tasting Notes

The region of Gavi is in Piemonte, n.w. Italy and lies due east of Barolo. Gavi is made from the Cortese grape which makes characterful crisp minerally white wines and is often described as the `Chablis of Italy`. The Bergaglio family who make this wine have been firmly rooted in the region since the 19th century and specialise in producing great Gavi from their own estate grown fruit. All grapes are hand harvested exclusively from vineyards in the commune of Gavi and Rolona is a pure expression of Gavi; pure, minerally and crisp.

Wine Making Notes

Gentle pressing of the grapes to extract the best juice followed by a cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks and bottling the following spring.

About the Producer

Castellari Bergaglio’s history is that of a family who decided to dedicate their time to wine production in the late 19th century in Gavi. Situated between Piedmont and Liguria, Gavi is a land of extraordinary beauty set between forest and tended vineyards, with trails climbing over the hills, it is an area of tranquillity and peace. The winery’s objective has always been to make wines whose features are unmistakeably linked to the terroir and, to achieve this, attention is focused on the Cortese grape variety, emblematic of the Gavi production zone, building a strong and unique personality, a great white in a region of great wines.
