The Lurton family own a boutique winery situated in the Lolol Valley. The estate comprises of 200 hectares and became biodynamic in 2012 in order to eliminate the use of artificial chemical treatments, and establish an organic approach to growing high quality fruit. The reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is made from a premium selection of fruit from the Colchagua Valley and the resulting wine aged in oak to create a rich concentrated wine.
50% of the resulting wine is aged in French Oak for 6 months to add complexity and softness to the final wine.
The Lurton brothers’ first dealings in Chile date back to 1992, when they entered into an exclusive consulting agreement with `Vina San Pedro`, but it was not until 1997 that they marketed their own wines, under the brand name `Araucano` (the name of Chile’s last indigenous people). It was the year that saw the launch of the first `Gran Araucano` – Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The Colchagua Valley in Chile is a dreamland for red wine growers. It is here that Francois Lurton bought land that had never before been used to produce wines and began planting vines near the historic village of Lolo. The estate now houses its own boutique winery. The climate in the valley is mild and influenced by its proximity to the ocean, with coastal mists shrouding the entire area in autumn and cooling the berries.
