Like a Rioja on steroids! Dark rich, oak aged Tempranillo with flavours of dark chocolate, vanilla and spice.
Perfect with lamb, steak, roast beef, duck and game.
This dark, brooding red is made exclusively from the Tempranillo grape and is like a beefed up version of Rioja. The Casado Alvides family owns the winery and farms the vines using the minimal amount of treatments necessary. Many of their vineyards are very old and yield as little as 2.5kg of grapes per vine. The region of Ribera del Duero is located in north central Spain and takes its name from the River Duero, which flows east to west through the region before finding its way into Portugal where it becomes known as the Douro River. The vineyards of the region are on slopes close to the meandering river and the hot days and cool nights in this continental climate produce grapes with enhanced aromatics and colour, while preserving natural acidity. Ribera de Duero wines rival those of Rioja and are amongst Spains most highly regarded wines.
Made from low yielding vines up to 50 years old, the key grape used in making this wine is Tempranillo. The grapes have a long, slow fermentation on their skins to extract colour and flavour. The resulting wine is aged in French oak for around 12 months before being bottled and further aged for 12 months before release.
